Missing Wisconsin Girl May Be in Our Area

Authorities are looking for a 15-year-old diabetic girl from Wisconsin and three teenage males who were believed to be in a stolen vehicle that led officers on a chase in northeastern Colorado. The Weld County Sheriff's Department says Friday that Breanne (bree-AN') Gomez of Eau Claire (oh klayr), Wis., is an insulin-dependent diabetic who could suffer seizures without medication. Authorities say her medication was found in a stolen vehicle that had been abandoned in Weld County after a pursuit through two nearby counties last night. The vehicle wasrecovered about 50 miles northeast of Denver and a light blue Chrysler minivan was reported stolen. Deputies say the four might be headed to Califorina.

Denver First Batch of Recreational Pot Licenses

The first batch of Denver businesses approved to sell recreational marijuana are getting their licenses.
The city is giving out licenses to the owners of 42 medical marijuana shops and growers Friday. Denver's one of 19 municipalities and seven counties in Colorado that will allow retail sales of recreational pot to those 21 and older under voter-approved Amendment 64. Only existing medical marijuana businesses in Denver are now allowed to make the transition to recreational sales. Of the 42 approved so far, eight are retail shops, 30 are growers and four are infused product manufacturers.

Greeley Museum Trying to Acquire Historical Letters

The Greeley History Museum is asking for donations to buy more than 300 letters from colonists in 1869 who were interested in establishing what became Greeley. Museum manager Dan Perry says the letters are part of an estate that is being settled and have to be appraised and sold within two months. Two fourth-generation Greeley residents went to the museum last week to offer to sell the letters valued at $15,685. The museum says the letters can't be donated, and the museum is not allowed to buy artifacts with its budget, so they're asking for the public's help. The letters were written in response to a call from Nathan Cook Meeker, Greeley's founder, who was trying to start a utopian agricultural community.

GiOP Plans to Introduce Changes in New Gun Laws

The GOP leader in the Colorado House says his party will try to overturn or change the gun restrictions Democrats passed earlier this year. Rep. Brian DelGrosso says legislation will be introduced in the next session to repeal the 15-round limit on ammunition magazines, as well as revisit expanded background checks, but did not provide specifics on possible legislation. The restrictions that took effect July 1 led to the recall ouster of two Democratic state senators. Democrats control the House by a wide margin and have a one-vote lead in the Senate.
