Fort Morgan City Council Considers Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Tonight

When the Fort Morgan City Council meets tonight, they'll see the first draft of an ordinance banning commercial medical marijuana operations in the city. During the most recent legislative session, state lawmakers created a bill that allows cities and counties to ban or regulate the operations of medical marijuana dispensaries and growing operations,
Before the bill was passed, the city had a temporary moratorium on pot dispensaries and decided to ban them after a public hearing on the topic.
The ordinance would allow individuals to grow and use their own medical marijuana if they are authorized by the state. But anyone who sets up a business such as a dispensary could be fined $1,000 per day as long as they remained open, the ordinance says.
