Shutterbugs Display Work at MCC

Its in its third year now, the Morgan County Shutterebugs Photography Club will show off its works at Morgan Community College. Some 20 photographs are on display at Cottonwood Hall this month and next. Visitors to the exhibit can see animals, architecture, nature and more in ordinary and extraordinary photos. There are pieces for sale too. Former resident Vincent Gearhart started the Morgan County Shutterbugs Photography Club and it lets member learn more about their craft and lets them share their work with similar interests. The public is invited to visit MCC, 920 Barlow Road, to see the work of these photo artists while it is on display.

NJC Offers EMT Training

Northeastern Junior College is offering an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic course this fall. Classes start on Tuesday, August 24th and will run through Saturday, December 11th. The EMT-Basic classes are designed with the adult student in mind. They will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as some Saturday classes. The Tuesday and Thursday classes will meet from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. and the Saturday classes will be full day classes.

The cost of the course and fees is: $1,263.50 - This does not include the book cost. Grant funds may be available to assist with half of the course cost. If you wish to get into this round of EMT training, call Tracy Yahn, Coordinator of Emergency Medical Services, at 521-6708 for help with the registration process.

Students in the EMT-Basic training must have already, or be able to complete a CPR for the Professional Rescuer class. This particular CPR class is being offered on Saturday, August 28th . Cost of this class is $37.50 and it will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Knowles Hall on the NJC campus. To sign up for this class, call 521-6900 by August 26th.

A similar class will be offered in Yuma this fall beginning September 13th to run through January 29th, 2011.

NJC Looking for Daniels Grant Recipients

Northeastern Junior College is once again the recipient of the 2010 Daniels Opportunity Award. Actually an awarded grant, the face value of this generous award provided by the Daniels Fund is $47,000. It is specifically intended to provide scholarships to several non-traditional populations, as requested by Daniels Fund founder Bill Daniels.

The Daniels Fund is able to help students, individuals, children, and families fully realize their potential. These programs allow many eligible students prepare for, attend, and complete college.

The funding received by Northeastern Junior College will be awarded to as many as 47 recipients who are Colorado residents and Pell eligible. The award will be applied to the remaining tuition and fees not covered by the Pell Grant. Award recipients must fit the Daniels non-traditional student population profile. This population includes non-traditional-aged adult learners, GED recipients, Foster Care Youth, Juvenile Justice Youth, returning Military Service Personnel and individuals pursuing EMT/Paramedic Certification.

New Logan County GOP HQ Opens

The Logan County Republican Headquarters opened on Monday with a grand opening at its new headquarters at Fifth and Main Streets. Part of the grand opening was a fund raiser for Cory Gardner of Yuma. Hes the Republican candidate for the 4th Congressional District, going after Betsy Markey's seat in Congress. The Journal Advocate reports that Gardner told supporters quote -- "We have a tremendous amount of momentum, not only in the 4th District, but across the nation. This November, we have a choice to get our freedom back.” Gardner said his campaign has raised more than $1.3 million.
