Fort Morgan's Board of Education talked over the idea of adding projects to the bond question being put to voters in November, to get a matching grant from the state for a new middle school. The extra projects could include replacing the plumbing and bringing the number of plumbing fixtures up to code in Columbine Elementary, Green Acres Elementary and Sherman Elementary Schools; building secure vestibules on the entrances of all three of those schools; adding new security systems for Lincoln High, Baker Elementary and Pioneer Elementary Schools; and replacing the air conditioning system at Fort Morgan High and adding air conditioning to the auditorium.

Hickenlooper Files Paperwork to Seek Re-Election
No big surprise, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper filed paperwork today to run for a second term as governor. Hickenlooper, a Democrat, has said many times he would seek a second term.
While there are no Democrats expected to challenge him next year, at least three Republicans have said they’ll try to unseat him. They are Secretary of State Scott Gessler, State Sen. Greg Brophy and former Congressman Tom Tancredo.

Arrest records say a friend of the boys told investigators they had video of Otto asking one of them for sex, and they had planned to blackmail him with it.
40K ears of corn picked in Fort Morgan for state's needy
About 100 people gathered at Mike Kosman's farm Saturday to pick approximately 40,000 ears of sweet corn to donate to the Food Bank of the Rockies.
Kosman had doubled the number of acres he devoted to the project this year, thus doubling the amount of corn that will be dispersed to food pantries across Colorado. Some of the corn will go to Caring Ministries of Morgan County.
Quite a few of the harvesters came from the Denver Metro area to join with local people on the project, including kids from the area, employees of area fertilizer companies and the Fort Morgan Young Farmers, Kosman said.

8 counties exploring creation of New Colorado
Eight Colorado counties want to form a new state -- New Colorado.
The Examiner says it has spoken exclusively with Weld County commissioners Sean Conway and Douglas Rademacher, who have given the name of the aspiring 51st state.
Conway and Rademacher cite what they call an ongoing disenfranchisement of the rural population by the state government. The two particularly have issue with gun control legislation.
Fifty-four Colorado sheriffs have come together to file a lawsuit over government overreach. Seven sheriffs spoke at last month's rally in Brush about the lawsuit.
All eight counties have put the secession initiative on their ballots. Those interested in supporting the secession effort can "like" "The 51st State Initiative" Facebook page.
