The federal Bureau of Land Management's plan to auction solar-energy rights on public lands in Colorado is off to a rocky start. No bidders showed up for the first auction. Three parcels covering 3,700 acres in the San Luis Valley were offered on today, and five solar developers had expressed interest in the land. According to the Denver Post, federal officials are now trying to determine why there were no bids.

Hearing For Saudi National Who Wants to Finish Punishment at Home
Saudi Arabia's seeking the return of a Saudi national serving an eight-year state prison sentence for sexually assaulting his housekeeper and treating her as a virtual slave. At a court hearing today, Homaidan al-Turki (HO'-ma-don al-tur-KEE'), asked to be allowed to serve probation back home. State officials have denied al-Turki's request to serve out his sentence in Saudi Arabia because he's refused to undergo sex offender treatment. Fahed Al-Rawaf of the Saudi embassy in Washington asked the court to release al-Turki for more appropriate treatment at home.
