Bond Set At Five-Million For Man Accused In Soldier's Death

(Grand Junction, CO) -- A Colorado man accused in the shooting death of a Fort Campbell soldier is being held on five-million-dollars bond. The "Grand Junction Daily Sentinel" reports Jarred Long will be back in court tomorrow. He may decide whether or not to fight extradition in the murder of Vincent Goslyn. The solder's wife is also being held in his death.

Member Of Boulder Slackline Team Performs At Super Bowl

(Boulder, CO) -- A two-time world champion slackliner is generating a lot of attention for a team in Boulder. Andy Lewis performed with Madonna during the Super Bowl halftime event. He's a member of the U.S. Pro team for Gibbon Slacklines, a company based in Boulder. Sunday's game was the most-watched show in the history of U.S. TV.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Plans To Charge For Campaign Security

(Arapahoe County, CO) -- The Sheriff of Arapahoe County is planning to charge political candidates for the extra security measures required by their campaign events. Sheriff Grayson Robinson put the candidates on notice in a statement released last week. Robinson said a typical four-to-six-hour event could cost local taxpayers more than 25-thousand dollars.

Romney Rally Draws Nearly 3,000 Before Colorado Caucus

(Centennial, CO) -- Republican front-runner Mitt Romney will appear at RV America in Loveland this morning after speaking yesterday to nearly three-thousand people in Centennial. Romney addressed a highly vocal crowd at Arapahoe High School last night, telling President Obama to, quote, "get out of the way." Colorado's Republican caucus begins tonight at 7 p.m.

Colorado Republican Presidential Caucus Today

(Boulder, CO) -- Colorado Republicans are meeting in caucus today to help select a presidential nominee.

Professor Ken Bickers heads the Political Science Department at the University of Colorado-Boulder. He says his sense is that Mitt Romney will likely win the state. But he says his hunch is Rick Santorum is the "sleeper candidate" who could "surprise everybody and do better than expected." Bickers says turnout could be about six and a half to seven-percent of the one-point-one-million registered Republicans in the state.

Jury acquits 2 ex-CU sprinters accused of burglary

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A jury has acquitted two former University of Colorado sprinters accused of burglary.

The Daily Camera reports Quinton Elgin Dodson and Aaron Jaron "A.J." Whitaker were acquitted last week of first-degree burglary, theft and third-degree assault. They had been accused in a burglary April 8 in which a CU student said someone grabbed his bicycle from him inside his home while someone else started hitting him.

CU spokesman Bronson Hilliard says neither Dodson nor Whitaker is actively enrolled at this time.

He says federal law prohibits him from saying anything more about their status.

CU student rescued from partly frozen ditch

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A 22-year-old University of Colorado student is in fair condition after spending seven to eight hours in calf-deep water in a partially frozen ditch.

Police say Grant Munski said he'd been drinking Sunday night and fell into the ditch around 2:30 a.m Monday. He was at the bottom of a 5- to 6-foot embankment and apparently too weak to call for help.

The Daily Camera reports a Lafayette Water worker found Munski in the mouth of a culvert in the ditch around 10 a.m Monday.

Boulder fire Lt. Joe Savino says Munski was crouched in calf-deep water that had partially frozen over, and firefighters had to break up the ice to free one of his legs.

Munski had frostbite on his toes.

No gun charge for CO lawmaker after traffic stop

DENVER (AP) — Denver prosecutors will not file a gun charge against a Republican lawmaker who police suspected was intoxicated when she had a firearm in her car.

Denver District Attorney spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said Monday prosecutors concluded they did not have enough evidence to convict Rep. Laura Bradford, in part because no blood-alcohol test exists.

It's a crime to have a firearm while intoxicated.

Police stopped Bradford Jan. 25. They said they suspected she was driving drunk but could not detain her because of a constitutional provision aimed at protecting lawmakers during session. Police ticketed her with a traffic violation, not DUI.

Bradford maintains she never asked for special treatment. Police have affirmed her story.

A legislative ethics committee is reviewing the case.

Bradford says she believes the committee will exonerate her.

Greeley foster father facing obscenity charge

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — A Greeley foster father is accused of sending photos of nude women to his 17-year-old foster son.

The Greeley Tribune reports 31-year-old Julian Ramos was charged Monday with promoting obscenity to a minor. He was arrested after Weld County employees allegedly found two photos of nude women on the boy's cell phone.

Ramos is free on a $5,000 bond.

A police affidavit says Ramos first told police he meant to send the photos to his father, then later allegedly said he sent the photos to the boy to keep him from trying to have sex with girls the boy liked.

Broncos RB Moreno could face DUI charge

DENVER (AP) — Denver police say Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno faces charges of drunken driving and careless driving after getting pulled over in south Denver.

Denver police Lt. Matthew Murray confirms Moreno was pulled over on southbound Interstate 25 around 1:30 a.m. Feb. 1 after allegedly driving 70 mph in a construction zone where the speed limit was 45 mph.

Murray says Moreno submitted to a blood test after an officer smelled what seemed to be alcohol, but results weren't available yet Monday.

The Broncos issued a written statement saying: "We take the incident involving Knowshon Moreno very seriously and are thoroughly reviewing this matter. Our organization will continue to gather information and closely monitor this issue while the legal process runs its course."

Colo. caucuses allow a view of support out West

DENVER (AP) — Colorado's caucuses offer the Republican candidates for president a glimpse of their support in the Mountain West.

Colorado has enjoyed top billing for presidential candidates in recent years, largely because of its toss-up status. Colorado's registered voters have been divided nearly evenly among Democrats, Republicans and independents, though the GOP has an advantage this year.

The Centennial State has never been much of a player in the nominating game. Republicans hoped to change that by moving up their presidential precinct caucuses by a month.

Tuesday's caucuses aren't binding. Most of Colorado's 36 Republican National Convention delegates won't actually be assigned until after a state GOP assembly in April.

Front-runner Mitt Romney plans to spend caucus night in Denver.

Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul all campaigned in Colorado.

Romney looks to squelch Santorum's late rise

GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) — Republicans in Colorado and Minnesota are holding their presidential caucuses today, and Mitt Romney is hoping he hasn't ignored Rick Santorum's attacks for too long.

Santorum was rising ahead of the contests after largely bypassing Florida and Nevada. He blanketed Tuesday's states with criticism of Romney and laid the groundwork among conservatives who have greater sway in caucuses.

Rival Newt Gingrich praised Santorum's strategy as shrewd even as he signaled he had no interest in exiting a four-way race that also includes Ron Paul.
