Two Arrested in Case of Greeley Woman Missing in Nepal

Authorities in Nepal say two men have been arrested in their disappearance 23-year old Aubrey Sacco of Greeley. She went hiking in northern Nepal in April 2010, near the end of the trekking season, and never returned. The two men, who have not been identified, were arrested near the area where Sacco disappeared yesterday and are being questioned. Family and local officials have searched the area where Sacco vanished but have not been able to find any trace.

Ft. Morgan Infrastructure Work Hits North Side Next Week

The City of Fort Morgan's infrastructure improvement program hits the north side of he city next week with work starting on replacement of the water mains in Ensign Street between Platte and Riverview Avenues, and the repaving of the project area. Upgrades to the storm water system in the area of Eighth Avenue and Ensign are also planned as part of the project, and the Fort Morgan Times reports it should give the area a breather from, the usual flooding during heavy rain. The work should be done by the end of the month. There will be periodic closures of the intersections of Platte and Ensign and Riverview and Ensign.

Some residents in the Sterling area may have waken up to hail damage. Mother Nature was bearing down on Logan County last night. The National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northweastern Logan County and northeastern Weld County, after severe storms were spotted just outside of Sterling, moving at about 35 mph, Thursday, right around quitting time at 5-something. Local residents were warned that the storm was capable of producing quarter size hail and could bring with it 60 mph winds, likely causing damage to roofs, siding, trees, and vehicles.

The first ATV's registered to ride on Sterling streets is a sign the new ordinance is going well. Sterling City Council passed an ordinance approving all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and off-highway vehicles (OHVs) for limited use on Sterling streets, earlier, and police say so far they've registered eight vehicles. Part of the licensing requires the ATVs to have safety equipment including lights and turn signals, and for the vehicle to be registered with the police department.

The "kingpin," in the so called 2012 Atwood shootout plot is finally in police custody. 26 year old Joseph Robert Bernal, and two other suspects are being charged in the, July 1, 2012 'gang style' shooting that killed, 20-year-old Fabian Flores. Police have been following leads, speaking to witnesses, and evaluating evidence since the fatal shooting. Bernal, the alleged gang leader, pleaded guilty to attempted first degree murder in April in the Atwood shooting and was sentenced to 25 years in prison with five years of mandatory parole. The other two suspects involved in the gang shooting death are also currently behind bars.

A Carbondale restaurant owner, police say, is the primary suspect in a fatal shooting. Thirty-nine-year-old Fredy Argueta Cabrera of Carbondale, is accussed of shooting a man to death, and wounding a woman, Wednesday night at an apartment complex south of Glenwood Springs. Police have released no information about the two victims or their connection to Cabrera, who owns El Horizonte restaurant in Carbondale, but workers at Cabrera's restaurant said that the man who died was also from El Salvador and was brought to the United States by Cabrera. The El Salvador native, turned himself into police and was being held Friday in the Mesa County jail. Donations were being collected at the restaurant to return the victim's body home. Cabrera also owns a restaurant in Glenwood Springs.

There is still much to do before the former Day's Inn rooms can be used for motel residences. While the rooms from the second story of the Day's Inn were moved near their new home at the New Concept Inn, they still have to be put on foundations, and the Board of Morgan County Commissioners must approve a conditional use permit in order for the structure to be used. The commissioners tabled the matter after a public hearing Tuesday, because the application paperwork for the permit had not been completed, adding that to their "things to do" list. A new hearing will be convened Sept. 3 if the the New Concept Inn meets all the requirements on the commissioners list of things to do, which they want completed and submitted with the application.

Build it and they will come. That's what Morgan County business owners and agricultural producers are hoping changes to the county land code will mean, which promises to give them a little more flexibility on what they can build on their property. The Board of Morgan County Commissioners approved the changes, this week, to make it acceptable to do a number of things in the county's commercial, light industry, and heavy industry zones. The amendment to the land code allows agricultural production and grazing on properties that are under those zoning designations, plus a number of low-impact building, including retail stores, storage buildings, single family, and bed and breakfast homes, medical and dental clinics, veterinary clinics, and hospitals are also allowed in commercial zones. Before the county code was changed, some landowners would be in violation of regulations.
