THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IS CONTINUING THE FLOOD WARNING FOR THE SOUTH PLATTE RIVER NEAR BALZAC FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON TO MONDAY MORNING...OR UNTIL THE RIVER DROPS BELOW FLOOD STAGE. EARLIER THIS AFTERNBOON, THE RIVER WAS AT 3.3 FEET. FLOOD STAGE IS 10 FEET. MINOR FLOODING IS FORECAST, AND THE RIVER COULD RISE ABOVE FLOOD STAGE BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE UP TO NEAR 10.5 FEET BY SUNDAY MORNING. THE RIVER WILL FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE BY EARLY MONDAY MORNING. IF IT GETS TO 10.5 FEET, THE WATER WILL BE FLOWING OVER THE RAILROAD TRACKS SOUTH OF MERINO.

Gandee named new Sterling parks/library/rec director
Sterling has a new parks, library and recreation director.
Wade Gandee has changed jobs and accepted the position. He has previously served as superintendent of parks, forestry and cemetery.
The Journal-Advocate reports Gandee saying 3,000 surveys have gone out to city residents this week concerning an update to the parks and recreation master plan.
The company overseeing the update hopes to have the final master plan by the end of February.

Utah has arrest warrant for Log Lane's Nipper
Authorities in Utah have a warrant for the arrest of Log Lane Village Trustee Roy Nipper.
Town Marshal Fred Cook tells The Fort Morgan Times that a concerned resident alerted him to this possibility last week.
The Class 3 charge of felony possession of a controlled substance against Nipper dates from 2003 in Salt Lake City.
However, Cook and a court clerk in Salt Lake City say Utah does not extradiate from other states for felonies less than classes 1 or 2.
Cook says the case aginst Nipper has to do with alleged meth and pot possession near a church, as well as alleged child endangerment.

Flash flood warnings over -- for now
All flash flood warnings for Northeastern Colorado have now expired. However, general flood warnings continue until eight-thirty tonight for much of the region. The National Weather Service has more specific flood warnings for the South Platte River near Weldona affecting Morgan County, as well as near Balzac affecting Logan, Morgan and Washington counties. These run through Saturday. Rain continues today, especially along the front range.
