Highway 144 Shut Down Last Thursday From Acid Spill

A hazardous materials spill shut down Highway 144 about four miles east of Weldona last Thursday afternoon, the Colorado State Patrol has reported. About 12 to 15 batteries spilled from a trailer. A few of them broke, spilling acid on the road. The road was completely shut down for about 1 1/2 hours, then traffic was limited to one lane for about 1 1/2 more hours while a state patrol hazardous materials team and members of the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department cleaned up the spill. Traffic was routed along County Roads 12 and W.5 during the cleanup.
