Health Exchange Overwhelmed on Day One

Colorado's health exchange website was overwhelmed by volume on its first day and is advising consumers they can't create more accounts under the Affordable Care Act until further notice. The Connect for Health Colorado website is where consumers without insurance can buy plans. It ran a banner encouraging visitors on Tuesday to keep browsing until its full services are restored. Connect for Health spokesperson tells The Denver Post that consumers had created 1,000 accounts early today before new accounts were suspended.

Morgan Cty Sheriff After Sex Assault Suspect

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office need your help. They're looking for 20-year old Damian Ortega, identified as a suspect in a sexual assault on a child. The Brush News Tribune reports Ortega has ties to the Fort Morgan and Hillrose areas. He's 5'11", 150, brown eyes and black hair-which may be shaved or cut very close, has gang ties and uses the street name "Drama." He has a number of tattoos on his face, neck, hands, and arms, particularly a pair of lips with the letters "xoxo" on the right side of his neck. If you see Ortega, call local law enforcement immediately with an exact location and any vehicle information.

Church members of First Presbyterian in Sterling, who have physical challenges are getting a helping hand. The state recently awarded the church, built in 1918, a $200,000 grant for much needrd renovations, including an elevator system to assist those who have mobility issues because of multiple staircases in the 24,000 square foot worship center. Work is to be completed by 2015. A fundraising concert will be held at First Presbyterian, this Thursday, (Oct. 3) at 7 p.m.

Logan County residents, impacted by the recent floods, will still be able to get assistance. The Disaster Recovery Center at the Gary DeSoto Building at the Logan County Fairgrounds is still open and will remain open for as long as necessary. The DRC is where FEMA, the Small Business Administration (SBA), American Red Cross, and Logan County Human Services have personnel available to assist Logan County residents affected by the South Platte River flood. Hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week. As of Sunday, (Sept 29), FEMA had approved $229,994 for 169 flood survivors in Logan County. Statewide more than 20,000 people have received more than $32 million collectively for disaster assistance, including grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help recover from the effects of the disaster. A group of citizens in Colorado Springs went vigilante on a home robbery suspect, Monday. Police say the homeowner, Frank Giunta, jumped on 35-year-old Michael Wright's back after he caught the burglar ransacking his garage. Giunta held the suspect down and others joined in to help keep him there until law enforcement arrived. The citizens were not identified.
