FMPD Investigates Burglary

Fort Morgan Police say somebody made off with some loot in a recent burglary.


Police went to an address in the 300 block of Meeker Street a week ago where the resident told them that several items had been stolen. Police said a laptop computer, two TVs, a DVD player, all valued at just over a thousand dollars were missing. They estimate, based on what the resident told them,that the burglary happened between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. last Monday. Laptop, Televisions Stolen in Residential Burglary

Fort Morgan Police are investigating a residential burglary that was reported on June 20, at 10:45 p.m. and resulted in the theft of two televisions and a laptop computer.

Officers responded to the 300 block of Meeker Street when a resident there called police to report that when they returned home, they had found items missing from their dwelling. The burglary occurred sometime between 3:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Entry into the residence may have been through a window.

Items taken in the burglary include a black Toshiba 13-inch combination TV/DVD player, a Phillips 32-inch flat screen television, and an Acer laptop computer. Estimated value of all the items taken totaled $1,025.

Hibbert Opens Store in Fort Morgan

Birmingham, Alabama -based Hibbett Sports Inc. opened its 800th store here in Fort Morgan a week ago, and is now looking for a new distribution center. Hibbert says its looking for more space in Birmingham.

Hick's Advisers in Sterling Last Week

Several of Governor John Hickenlooper's advisers were in Sterling last week. People like Dr. Chris Urbina, the executive director of Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Reggie Bicha, the new executive director of Colorado Department of Human Services, and Karla Maracinni, who is Governor Hickenlooper's policy adviser were all at the Plainsman Grill to meet with people with health and human services groups in our part of the state wanted to know how the state will work with them to help provide services to residents.

Brush Board Continues Search for Superintendent

The Brush Board of Education has set a timeline in its search for a new superintendent. Board president Don Dillehay meets tomorrow with a person that the Colorado Association of School Boards representative Dr. Randy Zila recommended for the temporary job. The permanent search continues, as board members were to have received candidate resumes and talked about them in an executive session last week. Now, the board is looking for community members to sit in on the candidate screening process.

6-year-old Hawaii boy wins kiddie sheep rodeo

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — Maybe surfing makes good practice for hanging onto a sprinting sheep.

A 6-year-old Hawaii boy was champion of the opening Mutton Bustin' in the Park Saturday. Stone Jesse of Oahu says he likes surfing and practicing jiu jitsu but has never ridden a sheep before. Mutton Bustin' is a popular rodeo event in which kids 6 and under wear miniature chaps and helmets and try to hold onto a running sheep

Mutton Bustin' events are held every day of the Greeley Stampede rodeo and festival held each summer.

Jesse nearly fell from his 150-pound sheep, but he held strong to the sheep's side for a winning score of 88. The boy told the Greeley Tribune he "just had a tough grip."

Jesse will take home his prize, a T-shirt, when he returns home from visiting relatives near Greeley.

Tighter Regulations On State's Marijuana Industry Go Into Effect Friday

(Denver, CO) -- Colorado's medical marijuana industry is about to become the most regulated in the United States. Starting this Friday, July 1st, additional state regulations go into effect. Dispensaries will be required to install video surveillance equipment that can be remotely monitored by state inspectors at all times. Furthermore, employees and growers must be credentialed by the state Department of Revenue's Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division and undergo an FBI background check.

Colorado Girl Scouts Aboard Amtrak Involved In Collision

(Reno, NV) -- Members of a Colorado Girl Scout troop were aboard an Amtrak passenger train that collided with a truck near Reno, Nevada. The girls from Lafayette were riding the train at the time of the collision, but none was injured. It happened Friday afternoon in rural Nevada. One Amtrak worker and the driver of the truck died, and 20 people were injured.

Residents In Lefthand Canyon Under Evacuation Order

(Boulder County, CO) -- More than 300 residents in Lefthand Canyon are being forced from their homes by wildfires. The 75-acre blaze is burning northwest of Boulder. Several area roads connecting with Lefthand Canyon Drive are closed including ones at North Foothills Highway and at James Canyon Drive leading to Olde Stage Road. The fast-moving fire was first reported around 5 p.m., and just two hours later evacuations were called.

Tintype Of Billy The Kid Auctioned For Two-Million Dollars

(Denver, CO) -- A retired Wichita industrialist is the new owner of the only authenticated photo of Billy the Kid. William Koch bought the tintype for two-million dollars Saturday night at a Denver auction. Organizers had estimated it would sell for 400-thousand dollars or less.

Two Small Devices Detonate, Slightly Damage Colorado Mills Bookstore

(Lakewood, CO) -- Authorities are investigating after two small devices partially detonated and damaged a Colorado Mills bookstore. Police discovered Saturday that someone had apparently forced their way into the Borders bookstore in Lakewood. The Jefferson County bomb squad was called, but no injuries were reported and no threats were sent to the bookstore or the mall.

Boulder County Sheriffs Looking For Couple Who Approached Two Girls

(Nederland, CO) -- Boulder County Sheriffs are looking for the couple who approached two eleven-year-old girls playing near Nederland. Authorities said a 200-pound white male driver with brown hair in a white Hyundai hatchback spoke to the girls Saturday evening as if he knew them. Driver In Deadly Collision Allegedly Swims To Flee Scene

(Longmont, CO) -- A woman is facing vehicular manslaughter charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash by trying to swim across a lake. Police say Lisa Norton was driving on a suspended license Saturday evening near Longmont when her pickup crossed the center line and crashed into a coupe. The driver of the coupe, Gabriel Nielsen, was killed, and two passengers are in serious condition. Boaters reportedly picked up Norton from the lake and turned her over to police.

Movie Night at Sterling Library Wednesday

Movie Night at Sterling Public is on June 29th at 7:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room. We will have a great time at Jellystone Park during the evening.

Sterling Library Series Focuses on North America

This week Sterling Public Library’s Passport Please series on Monday, June 27th at 2:00
p.m. will focus on North America. The program is for kids of all ages. Denise will
share stories from Canada and Mexico. She will also have some fun facts about the two
countries. As a part of the program participants will be doing bark painting. This is a folk art from Mexico.

Remember if you attend the program you will be given a passport that will be stamped.
Once the passport is stamped, and you check out books before 9:00 p.m. on the following
Tuesday, you will win a prize.
