Registrations for Fall Sports on Now

Racquetball and Fall WallyBall Registration on Now.

Men’s “Open” and Women’s “Open”, Fall Racquetball League registrations will be taken through October 10, 2010. League fees will be collected when the leagues commence. The fee is $25.00 for an eight game league. The entire league will only cost you $2.50 if you are a Sterling Recreation Center yearly pass holder or a City Employee! League play begins the week of October 17th, and ends Dec. 12h, 2010. Co-Rec. and 2-A-Side, Fall Wallyball League registrations will be taken through October 10, 2010.

Participants can register by calling or coming to the Sterling Recreation Center at 522-7882 or they can register at the Center.

Meeting Tonight on Sterling Escape

Colorado prison officials are holding a community meeting in Sterling to discuss the escape of an inmate from a maximum-security prison there.

Department of Corrections Director Ari Zavaras and other department executives will attend the meeting tonight on the campus of Northeastern Junior College.

Forty-eight-year-old Douglas Alward was serving time for attempted murder, assault, kidnapping and burglary when he escaped on Aug. 22. Officials haven't said how.

He surrendered three days later at a home near Yuma, where he had been holding a woman hostage. Authorities said the hostage was well but released no other details.

It was Alward's fourth escape.

He has been placed in solitary confinement at another Colorado prison.

Friends of of the Library Gest $400 from Lions Club

The Sterling Lions Club gave the Sterling Public Library a 500 dollar check on Saturday, the fruits of their labor at the Lions 90th Anniversary Pancake Breakfast. The fun was at Pioneer Park this summer. The funds will be used for the children's area of the library.

Sherman Street Closed Starting Today

The railroad crossing at Sherman Street will be closed to all traffic starting this morning so that The City of Fort Morgan Street Department and Aggregate Industries can asphalt pave the 100 block of Sherman Street. Please use alternate route while construction is in progress. The project should be complete this Saturday, September 11.

Cherry Street Improvement Project Continues

Don't forget Cherry Street in Fort Morgan will be closed between Burlington Ave. and Gateway Ave. to through traffic during an improvement project. Access will remain available for residents. The project's been going on since August 12 and runs through September 9. Work crews are on the job from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
