COLORADO ECONOMIC RECOVERY
DENVER (AP) — Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper is releasing details of a statewide economic development plan his office says will set a course for Colorado to recover from the recession.
The initiative released Wednesday is Hickenlooper's most ambitious undertaking during his first year in office and was one of the major highlights of his campaign promises last year. The plan outlines six areas the state will work to improve on to boost the economy. They include a focus on making it easier for businesses to do their taxes, promoting tourism, increasing access to capital for businesses and attracting technology companies.
The details of the governor's economic agenda come after discussions with thousands of people across the state and input from all 64 counties.

Last military unit leaving former Denver air base
DENVER (AP) — A one-time Cold War bastion in Denver took another big step in its transformation to a civilian neighborhood of homes, schools and shops on Tuesday as the last military unit prepared to leave.
The Air Reserve Personnel Center is the last military holdover on the former Lowry Air Force Base.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday for its new $17 million, 80,000-square-foot headquarters at Buckley Air Force Base in the east Denver suburb or Aurora. Workers report to the new building on Aug. 1.
Lowry was opened in the late 1930s as a training base for Army Air Corps bomber crews and technical specialists. The Air Force closed Lowry in 1994 with the end of the Cold War and budget cuts.

Hackers Change Signs To Warn Of Zombies And Vampires
(Pueblo, CO) -- Zombies and vampires are not hazards drivers would expect to find on local roads. But hackers have been changing the safety messages on electronic road construction signs in Colorado Springs and Pueblo to suggest these creatures from horror movies are on the roadways. That means drivers are not getting the messages they are supposed to see in construction zones. Co-owner of Barricade and Sign Rick Bowman tells KRDO-TV the messages may be humorous but they can be dangerous because they don't warn motorists of detours and changes to the roadway.
