CSAP Scores Announced

The results were mix for RE-1 Valley School District on this year’s Colorado Student Assessment Program or CSAP tests.
The Colorado Department of Education announced the CSAP results for districts across the state yesterday. Ron Marostica, assistant superintendent of RE-1 told the Journal Advocate quote -- “From third through 10th grade, we held our own. Basically our performance mirrors in general what we did last year.” He said that this year 92 percent of students made adequate yearly progress or AYP targets compared to 94 percent last year..

Logan County Fair Parade Winners Announced

The winners of the various categories of the Logan County Fair Parade were announced by Parade Chairman Mindy Roelle after tabulation of the judges’ scoring.
First in their respective categories were: Religious Category, Faith United Methodist Church; Youth Category, Shamrocks 4-H; Service Groups Category, Sterling Miniature Aircraft Association; Commercial Category, KCI; Antique Cars before 1940, Don Boothe and the Santa Fire Truck; Classic Cars After 1940, Jared Kuntz, 1964 Cadillac; Restored Antique Classic Tractor, Troy Penner, 1941 International A.

Golf Classes Tee Off at NJC

Northeastern Junior College’s Extended Studies department is offering a Beginner Golf for Adults Class beginning Wednesday, August 25th. The class will be Wednesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Northeastern 18 golf course, meeting four times, with the class ending on September 15th. Cost of the class is about 63 dollars for those under 60. Prime Time Learners may complete the class just over 39 dollars. This class fee covers your costs to use the facility during class time as well as the instruction. To register, call NJC before Thursday, August 19th.

NJC Offeres Sign Language, Spanish Classes

Registration is open through Thursday, August 26th for two special language classes offered by Northeastern Junior College’s Extended Studies department this fall. There are sign language classes or a conversational Spanish class. Both classes run simultaneously, on Monday nights, from August 30th through October 11th, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Prime Time Learners, age 60 and over, are able to enjoy these classes at a significantly lower cost. Cost of either one of these classes is just under 115 dollars for those under age 60. Prime Time Learners may enroll for just over 66 dollars. To get registered for sign language or conversational Spanish, call the Extended Studies office on campus before the August 26th deadline.

Fott Morgan Citizens Police Academy Coming Up

The Citizen Police Academy is an opportunity for citizens to have an inside look at police work. Attendees must pre-register to attend. Applications due September 3, 2010.

National 8-11 Day Today

August 11, 2010 is National 8-11 Day!
Colorado 811 is hosting 8-11 Awareness Day today, after all it is 8/11, to help promote the need to call 811 before digging where utility lines may be affected. The educational event in recognition of National 8/11 Day will be held in Denver at the Comcast Facility at 1601 Mile High Stadium Circle from 10 am - 1 pm. Please remember to always call 811 before digging!

Library Board Meets Next Week

The Fort Morgan Library Board meets on August 16 at 5 p.m. The board, including staff and city council liaison Brent Nation will discuss the Mid-year Budget Adjustments and the financial statement will be provided. They'll also discuss the annual review of Library Policy Statement. The meeting is open to the public and is at Library Community Room - 110 Main Street.
