Three Charged in Deadly 2012 Greeley Drive By

Greeley Police have charged three men in a 2012 drive-by that killed 20-year old Fabian Flores. The Greeley PD Gang Unit's gotten arrest warrants for Joseph Bernal, Corey Moreno, and Jose Velasquez. Police say Bernal and Moreno each face 2 counts of 1st degree murder and 3 counts of attempted murder. Velasquez faces one count of accessory to 1st degree murder. Moreno and Bernal are already in the Weld County Jail, and Velasquez is currently in the Department of Corrections for an unrelated crime.

Ft. Morgan Public Library Needs New Children's Librarian

Fort Morgan's Public Library is going to be looking for a new children's librarian. Cindy Frye, who's had the job, is taking over programs for teens and adults at the library. Library and Museum Director Jody Hungenberg says the city's looking for a new full-time children's librarian to replace Frye, and a new part-time circulation assistant. The part-time job's already been posted on the city website, cityoffortmorgan.com, and the children's librarian job will soon be going up as well.

You'd better slow down

You'd better slow down. Motorists need to watch out for the new stop sign at MCR 18.5 and MCR O, as well. That intersection is now a three-way stop. This is the second phase of safety improvements at the intersection, following the death of a boy last weekend, when his truck went off went off the road. The speed limit was also lowered on the Road following the fatal accident. Watching for the the stop sign will be particularly important Friday evening, when friends and loved ones plan a candlelight vigil for the boy who died. The county says they did put in new speed limit signs and a stop sign in that area because of safety concerns on the road, but the change was also based on a CSP study.

Colorado is 137 years old!

Colorado is 137 years old! Today marks the 137th anniversary of Colorado's statehood, after the South seceded from the Union, in 1861, Congress created the Colorado territory. And it's a double celebration for the Overland Trail Museum. Thursday also marks the two-year anniversary of the opening of the High Plains Education Center. The city of Sterling and the museum are celebrating Colorado Day and the HPEC anniversary by offering free admission today (Aug. 1). Call the museum for more information.

One business owner thinks a proposal for secession in Weld County would make them the butt of the joke for late-night comics. Others thought opening the lines of communication would be more effective, rather than starting a new state. One things for sure, residents are divided about a proposal to create a new state in northern Colorado in the most populated part of Weld County.
People turning out for meetings across the county recently have been mostly supportive. But about half of the dozens of people at Tuesday night's meeting in Evans thought it was a bad idea. Weld County commissioners have proposed Weld and several other mainly northeastern Colorado counties form a new state, because they're tired of state legislators ignoring the needs of rural communities. The commissioners' final meeting was scheduled for last night in Ault.
