Fort Morgan Police are recommending felony charges against two male juveniles in connection with the recent vandalism of vehicles and windows at an apartment complex on West Kiowa Avenue. The vandalism occurred the night of December 17th, when a BB gun was used to shoot out windows on approximately eight vehicles as well as several apartment windows. The Fort Morgan Police Department’s investigation led to two 16-year-old males. The FMPD has recommended to the District Attorney’s Office that charges of criminal mischief, as well as bias-motivated crime charges be filed against the two suspects. The bias-motivated crime charges stem from the fact that the apartments and the vehicles targeted all belonged to members of the African refugee community in Fort Morgan. Police Chief Keith Kuretich said, “This act of vandalism appears to have targeted a specific group of individuals on the basis of their race, which is disturbing and can damage the fabric of our community. Bias-motivated crimes are designed to intimidate the victims and the community, leaving them feeling isolated, vulnerable and unprotected by the law. These acts are reprehensible and regardless of the age range (of the perpetrators) they will be held responsible.”

Nick Cannon Hospitalized in Aspen
"America's Got Talent" host Nick Cannon is hospitalized in Aspen for what his wife Mariah Carey is calling "mild kidney failure." She posted a picture online of her husband in a hospital bed along with a message asking for prayers.
Sterling Teen Killed in Car Crash
A teenager was killed in an accident on County Road 32 near Sterling this morning. According to the Colorado State Patrol, a Jeep driven by 20-year-old Hannah Morton of Littleton failed to stop at the intersection with C.R. 35.7and struck the driver's side of car driven by 17-year-old Cole Rhodes of Sterling. Rhodes was a student at Caliche High School. RE-1 Valley School District officials contacted parents to inform them of the death and allowed students who wished to leave school early because of the news to be released to a parent. The school district is also making counseling services to students. Morton was also injured in the accident and transported to Sterling Regional MedCenter.
7-11 Robbed Last Night
Fort Morgan police are looking for an armed robbery suspect. The robbery went down just before 6 last night at the 7-11 in the 600 block of West Platte Avenue. Word of the robbery came at last night's council meeting when Police Chief Keith Kuretich told council members that it had just happened. Kureditch said police don't know the gender of the suspect, as their face was covered when they entered the store. Police said the suspect got away with cash, fleeing on foot, and nobody was hurt. Gov Appoints Sterling Man to CSU Board
Russ Johnson of Sterling will serve on the
CSU Board of Governors after Governor John Hickenlooper appointed him to a four year term, and he'll be one of the nine voting members of the board. Johnson's family has been here in Northeastern Colorado since 1915 and he's been in Logan County for 36 years. He and his son own a farm and ranch located in both Logan and Washington Counties.

4-Day Week Task Force Needs Members
The RE-1 Valley School District Board of Education is currently looking for people to join the Four-Day School Week Task Force. Those on board will study the option of having a four day school week, thus helping the district save money. The task force will report to the board on the financial and instructional pros and cons of cutting one day a week from the classroom week. Mitt Romney Winner In Iowa Caucuses
(Des Moines, IA) -- Mitt Romney is the winner in the Iowa Republican Party presidential caucuses. Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Matt Strawn made the late-night announcement that the former Massachusetts governor came out on top in the statewide caucuses held in the Hawkeye state. He wins by a slim margin, with just eight votes separating him from second-place finisher Rick Santorum.

(Fort Collins, CO) -- The man who fell to his death during the Pretty Lights show last weekend was a CSU student. A university spokesperson says Christopher Engel died yesterday from injuries sustained in the fall. The 20-year-old was discovered behind the main stage at the 1STBank Center after dropping from the second level.

Organizers say there is too much open water and a lack of snow.
Park assistant Kimi Lehman said the races on Saturday and Sunday were scrapped because of safety concerns and unfavorable weather forecasts.
According to Steamboat Today the park was planning to host 15 to 20 dog sled teams from across the state.
The park says it intends to reschedule the event when conditions improve.

Hickenlooper: Olympics bid needs careful look
DENVER (AP) — Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper says whether to seek the 2022 Winter Games is not a "black and white" issue and not something Denver should automatically pursue.
The Democrat said Tuesday during a luncheon in downtown Denver that the city should explore the "pros and cons" of hosting the games before launching a bid. Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock announced in December that a committee would explore whether to pursue a bid and report back in the coming months.
At the time, committee members said the idea should be taken seriously.
The 2022 host will be chosen in 2015. But potential bid cities would have to be committed to a plan by 2013.
Denver was awarded the 1976 Winter Games but voters rejected the idea over concerns of pollution and sprawl.

DENVER (AP) — Abortion opponents could begin gathering signatures this week on a third Colorado ballot measure to challenge federal abortion rights.
The so-called "personhood" amendment would ban all abortions. The measure is going to a state title board Wednesday. The board will decide on legal challenges to the language of the ballot measure.
The Personhood Colorado group could be cleared to begin gathering some 86,000 signatures needed for a third appearance on Colorado ballots.
Similar abortion bans on Colorado ballots in 2010 and 2008 lost badly.

The Campaign To Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol says it will turn in some 160,000 signatures in favor of the ballot initiative. The measure would make pot possession legal in small amounts for adults over 21, without a doctor's recommendation.
Colorado requires roughly 86,000 valid signatures to put the question before voters.
The state has 30 days to certify signatures and decide whether the pot measure will be on ballots.
If approved, the marijuana question would be the first cleared for Colorado's 2012 election.

Plea delayed for mom accused of locking up boy
GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — A mother accused of locking her teenage son in his room is to undergo a mental health evaluation.
A court hearing Tuesday for Amanda Jolliff was delayed to allow for the evaluation. She is charged with one felony count of false imprisonment and one charge each of misdemeanor child abuse and neglect.
Jolliff was charged after a neighbor found her son under the porch of Jolliff's trailer Sept. 27. An arrest warrant affidavit says the boy and his sister had been left in the care of a man who lived in a car outside Jolliff's trailer while she and her boyfriend, Richard Smith, visited New York. The boy told police he was often locked in his room for most of the day.
Smith has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child abuse.
