Logan County Sheriff's Office Investigating Death Of Child

The Logan County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 3-year-old child from Sterling. On July 8th, the sheriff's office received a report of a critically injured child. The child, Alexis R. McClain, was taken to Sterling Regional Medical Center suffering from physical injuries. McClain was taken to Children's Hospital in Denver and was pronounced deceased on July 9th. The case is being investigated as a suspicious death, however no suspects have been named at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is to be released by the Logan County Sheriff's Office at this time.

EPA Holds Fracking Hearings

The EPA is holding the second of four public meetings as it prepares to study potential effects of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. The meeting is Tuesday night in Denver and will gather public comments on an upcoming study on the relationship between fracking and drinking water. Fracking is a process that pumps fluids into underground geologic formations at high pressures to help extract oil and natural gas.

Police Incestigate Vandalism

Police are investigating a vandalism where a windshield and a window in a house were broken. Police say that on July 4th, a resident in the 400 block of West Paltte Avenue reported a rock thrown through the house window. Eastwood Enters Not Guilty Plea

Bruco Strong Eastwood told the court yesterday that he's not guilty by reason of insanity. He's the man accused of shooting two eighth graders outside their middle school. He was then ordered by a Jefferson County Court to undergo a mental evaluation. Officials say that could take 45 days. Eastwood faces several charges for the February 23rd shooting. His next court appearance is set for July 23rd.

McInnis Accused of Plagairism

Did he plagiarize and essay he wrote? That's what observers are asking about Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis. He's accused of lifting passages in essays he wrote about water. The Denver Post says the passages had already been published. It said yesterday that parts of the writings had whole paragraphs from the previoiusly published articl in them. A spokesman for the candidate blames a research adviser for the content and calls not giving the original writer credit "regrettable".
