Meeting About the New Akron High School To Be Held

A meeting will be held today from 10 AM to 7 PM at the Akron High School with the Neenan Company about the new high school.

Fort Morgan Police Will Hold Meeting About Immigration Enforcement

An opportunity to learn more about the role our police play with immigration enforcement will take place this Saturday at 5 PM in the Fort Morgan High School Library.







Brenda Zion, executive director of OneMorgan County, says a meeting with Fort Morgan Police Department Lt. Darin Sagel on Saturday will help to answer questions from both immigrants and residents.

Morgan County Gets Between 6 and 16 Inches of Snow

On average, Morgan County got about six inches of snow from a weekend storm and roads were slick. The weather station at the Fort Morgan Cemetery registered that total. Morgan County Roads Superintendent John Goodman said county roads got anywhere from six to 16 inches of snow and he said there was little drifting of that snow. Roads were being cleared yesterday to improve the commute.

Boy, Eight, Survives Fall From Ski Lift

Quick-thinking ski patrollers at Snowmass miraculously caught an eight-year-old boy from New Zealand who fell from a 25-foot-high ski lift. Officials said the boy started to fall off the lift at Village Express Friday but was grabbed by his parents as it kept moving up the hill. With the chair stopped, patrollers used a pad from the ski tower like a net and on their call, the parents let go of the boy. He dropped 25-feet into the cushion without injury. Officials took the boy to get checked out at a hospital but he was deemed fine and released.

Report: Australian Twin had No Drugs In System

Officials in Colorado have concluded the Australian twin who died in a bizarre suicide pact at a shooting range in November had no drugs or alcohol in her system. That was the finding in a report released yesterday by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office. Twenty-nine-year-old Kristin Hermeler died November 15th at the Cherry Creek State Park Family Shooting Range from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Candice Hermeler shot herself in the mouth but survived.

Symposium To Help At-Risk Students Get Into College

Students can obtain scholarships and laptops at the fourth annual Reach Higher Summit January 21st and 22nd. The event, open to students and their parents, plus teachers, child welfare workers and juvenile justice professionals, aims to motivate and aid at-risk youths get into college. Topics of the seminar will include college funding, talking with teens and preparing children for college. Man Charged After Allegedly Threatening To Kill President Obama

Officials said Monday that federal prosecutors have charged a 47-year-old man who allegedly threatened to kill President Obama. Donald Edward Hatten of Colorado Springs was charged in U.S. District Court in Denver with making threats against the president after the alleged incident January 6th in the Colorado Springs FBI office. An affidavit U.S. Secret Service agent Melissa T. Blake filed says Hatten told an FBI agent quote, "I want to stop the voices and I intend to kill the president." Hatten, if convicted, could spend up to five years in prison and/or pay a 250-thousand-dollar fine.

Man Arrested For Threats Against Senator Bennet's Staff

A Colorado man has been charged with threatening violence against the staff of U.S. Senator Michael Bennet. John Davis was in court Monday and remains in custody until a bond hearing Thursday. Davis told the judge he understands the charges federal prosecutors filed against him. He was assigned a public defender when he asked the judge who his lawyer was. Davis is accused of making threatening phone calls to members of Bennet's Denver staff. The affidavit alleges he told a staff member last week he is schizophrenic and was, quote, "going to come down there and shoot you all." Davis was arrested over the weekend and faces ten years in prison, if convicted.
