EX denver Sheriff's Deputy Pleads Guilty in Inmate Escape

A former Denver sheriff's deputy's pleaded guilty to a charge of helping an inmate escape from jail. Matthew Andrews faces up to six years in prison when he's sentenced in January on his plea today to attempting to influence a public servant. Prosecutors say he helped Felix Trujillo walk out of jail in April in a sheriff's deputy's baseball cap and jacket and then drove him away. Investigators say Andrews told co-workers he helped with the escape because he and his family had been threatened. Trujillo later surrendered, and was sentenced to 34 years on guilty pleas to the escape and the robbery he was in jail for at the time of the escape.

Avalanche Goalie Charged With Misdemeanor Assault

Prosecutors have filed a misdemeanor assault charge against Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov (var-LAH'-mawf) after his girlfriend said he attacked her last month. The Denver district attorney's office says Varlamov faces one count of third-degree assault. If convicted, the 25-year-old faces a sentence ranging from probation to six months in jail. Varlamov's agent's said he's innocent. His attorney's declined to comment. The girlfriend's told police he knocked her down with a kick to the chest and stomped on her chest after she was down.

Colorado farmers are speaking up

Colorado farmers are speaking up. Agriculture representatives spoke in front of Fort Morgan Furniture Tuesday morning adding their voices to a call for U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner to vote for immigration policy reform now, saying their industry needs a legal, reliable workforce. A study by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office shows that Colorado's gross state product would increase by $15.8 billion and produce $9.1 billion in wages over 10 years if immigration reform such as that approved in the U.S. Senate was passed. It would add 2,300 jobs to the state's economy, and produce $681 million in taxes, according to the Colorado Farm Bureau

Morgan county school district re-3 announced this week that the funding thought secured through the BEST program for the construction of a new middle school has been delayed and may require a new grant application for capital construction funding. Morgan county school district was approved in the 2013-14 grant application cycle and was assured that funding would be secured if the school district passed a bond issue for the district's matching portion of the project. Changes in the statute, as well as the state funding process have caused the award to be delayed. morgan county school district board of education members and school district officials are currently working with representatives to resolve the delay and obtain the funding needed to build a new school.
