Logan County Sheriff's Office Investigating Death Of Child

The Logan County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 3-year-old child from Sterling. On July 8th, the sheriff's office received a report of a critically injured child. The child, Alexis R. McClain, was taken to Sterling Regional Medical Center suffering from physical injuries. McClain was taken to Children's Hospital in Denver and was pronounced deceased on July 9th. The case is being investigated as a suspicious death, however no suspects have been named at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is to be released by the Logan County Sheriff's Office at this time.

Former Logan County Sheriff Found Dead Friday

Early Friday morning, Robert Eugene "Bob" Bollish, age 60, was found dead by family members on a remote section of his property. The call came into dispatchers at approximately 12:23 am Friday. Mr. Bollish was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound. The Logan County Sheriff's Department was notified and responded and secured the scene. Logan County Sheriff Brett Powell requested that the Sterling Police Department conduct the investigation into Mr. Bollish's death. Sterling Police did respond and processed the scene with the assistance of investigators from the District Attorney's Office and the Logan County Coroner. As part of the investigative process, interviews are being conducted and an autopsy was scheduled to be performed on Friday afternoon. Bollish was Logan County Sheriff from 1994 to 2006, when he lost in the primary election to current Sheriff Brett Powell. Bollish announced at the Logan County Republican's Lincoln Day Dinner on February 13th, his intention to run once again for Logan County Sheriff.

Fire Claims Crook Bar

On February 3rd, 2010, at approximately 11:10 AM, Logan County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Bobbie's Bar at 309 2nd Avenue in Crook, Colorado in reference to a structure fire. Upon arrival the building was engulfed in flames. Members of the Crook Fire Department, Sterling Fire Department, Fleming Fire Department, and Holyoke Fire Department assisted in extinguishing the fire which burned into the mid afternoon hours. After investigation, and speaking with the building owner, Bobbie Blankenship, the initial cause of the fire appears to be accidental, caused by grease that ignited. The building was a total loss, which included the bar/restaurant and upstairs apartments. No injuries were reported during the incident.
