CU cheating reports up

Reports of cheating have increased at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

However, campus officials say that has resulted from students in the Honor Code Office doing a better job of raising awareness of the tools faculty can use to find it.

The Daily Camera reports the office receiving 279 reports of cheating for the year ending in July. That trumps the 202 received the previous year.

Sterling to discuss cemetery and chickens tomorrow

Sterling's city council meets tomorrow night to discuss a cemetery and chickens.

It does not sound like much, but the Journal-Advocate reports this odd combination could make for a long evening.

The Friends of Sunset Memorial Gardens has worked for a year to improve the cemetery north of town. The Colorado Association of Cemeteries made a series of recommendations in June. The committee working with the cemetery owners has suggested that it would like the cemetery to fall under control of a governmental entity or a new special cemetery district.

Meanwhile, a chicken ordinance would allow city residents to raise them in their yards. A Facebook group sent it to the planning commission, which then passed it on to the council with some suggested changes. The council in August decided not to adopt the amendment from the commission, and instead develop its own ordinance.

Ribbon cut for band shell at City Park

People may notice something different at Fort Morgan's City Park.

Morgan Community College president Kerry Hart used scissors to cut the ribbon for the Dahms-Talton Band Shell there.

The Fort Morgan Times reports Mary Zorn from the organizing committee saying a full dedication and celebration takes place in May at a time when people can better enjoy the shell.

Zorn says people can sponsor memorial bricks. Little ones come as little as $100 each, but the big ones run $1,000.

People hoped Saturday's ceremony would have included music in the shell, but the unusually cold weather made that impossible.

City engineer Brad Curtis claims the cold also delayed some work on the shell. He says incomplete spots include the roof, electrical fixtures, and the memorial brick wall.

Some residents living in Golden are on alert because of water overflowing the banks of frozen Clear Creek. Authorities warned, residents of the Clear Creek RV Park to be ready to evacuate, Monday if necessary. Several trails in Golden are closed due to high levels of frozen water, and several parking lots along the creek are also closed.
