Colorado farmers are hoping Mother Nature is kinder this year. Corn planting is finally underway, after recent snow storms delayed planting this year. Farmers started planting seed last Friday, and by this Tuesday, close to 40 percent of the corn in the county had been sown. That was a big jump from 1 percent that time last week. The recent precipitation means that corn will not need spring irrigation to get it started. Also, local reservoirs are full after winter runoff, so the water will be on hand for irrigation later. Some Front Range reservoirs will still need water, but not those in Northeast Colorado.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Office wants to make sure you do, and will be conducting a community meeting to provide information to residents about a registered sex offender who has moved into unincorporated Morgan County, south of the town of Wiggins. Join the discussion next Monday night, (May 13) at 7:00, at the Wiggins Fire Hall, on Central Ave. The goal of the meeting is to enhance public safety and protection. Orgaizers say due to the mature content of the information that will be presented, it is not advisable to bring children to the meeting. For more information call the Morgan County Sheriff's Office
