Election for One RE-1 Valley BOE Seat

There's an election coming up in Logan County: amid all the stories we've brought you about elections or no elections, the RE-1 Valley Board of Education will hold an election this fall. There's a race for the district one seat on the board. Incumbent Cody Engelhaupt will be challenged by Tabitha Borgman. She used to work for the school district. He got appointed to the board after elected district one representative Kathy Miller missed more than three consecutive meetings and the seat was declared vacant. Three other board seats will be filled with unchallenged candidates.
The next RE-1 Board of Education meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 6, starting with a workshop at 6 p.m. followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m.

Monday Closings in Morgan County

There are several closings for the Monday, Labor Day Holiday, closings like Morgan Community College, Brush, Fort Morgan, Weldon Valley and Wiggins schools are closed, as are Riverview Christian School and Trinity Lutheran School.
Federal, state, Morgan County and Fort Morgan and Brush city offices will be closed.
Trash normally picked up Monday will be picked up Tuesday, the landfill will be closed.
There's no mail delivery on Monday.
The banks are closed.
The Fort Morgan Museum and Library will be closed on Monday. The East Morgan County Library will be closed tomorrow and Monday.

Sonny's Rocks Robbery and Salina Utah Jewels Found May Be Connected

Denver detectives are heading to Salina, Utah because, remember how we told you last week, and kind of laughingly, that two clowns burst into Sonny's Rocks in Denver and got away with what the ownerr said were fakes? Turns out they might not be. Chief Gred Harwood of the Salina Utah Police Department.

"He continued his investigation, he found on the passenger, she had several wrapped up in a bag in her pocket. They're trying to put it all together. Detectives are coming from Denver to take a look at the evidence we have."

Now Denver Police say a man and a woman were stopped in Salina Utah with about 400 thousand dollars worth of diamond rings and a couple of guns. 21-year-old Vincent Scott Matthews of Aurora and 22-year-old Ronette Sheri Hatch of Aurora are being held in the Sevier County Jail.

Starz quits talks to renew Netflix streaming deal

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Starz says that it has ended renewal talks with Netflix on providing movies and other content for its on-demand streaming service.

The decision announced Thursday deals a big blow to Netflix Inc.'s streaming service at a time when many users are angry about its recent decision to raise its monthly subscription prices. Netflix's stock sank 8 percent after the announcement was made.

When signed in October 2008, the deal was Netflix's first major content-streaming agreement. It was expected to be renewed but with Starz receiving more than it had previously.

Now, Netflix will be able to run Starz content only through February.

Starz Entertainment is a unit of Starz LLC, which is owned by Englewood-based Liberty Media Corp.

Man who accused Suthers of poking found guilty of lying

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — A man who accused Colorado Attorney General John Suthers of poking him in the chest has been convicted of false reporting.

Robert Trucker was sentenced to 150 hours of public service and fined $200 after being convicted Thursday of the misdemeanor charge. The Loveland Reporter-Herald reported that a Larimer County jury deliberated 40 minutes before reaching a verdict.

Trucker accused Suthers of poking him in the chest and pushing Trucker's camera during a discussion about a ballot measure last year. The Larimer County Sheriff's office cleared Suthers of wrongdoing and said there was no evidence to support Trucker's claim.

Suthers testified during Trucker's trial this week that he talked with Trucker but there was no physical contact.

Denver Zoo Has New Mandrill Monkey

(Denver, CO) -- The Denver Zoo has a new resident, a 14-year-old mandrill monkey. The Zoo says bringing "Rafiki" in makes sure there's a healthy and diverse population of animals. Mandrills are mainly found along the coasts of Central Western Africa. They're the largest of all monkey species.
