Marijuana Dispensaries Snuffed Out

The Greeley City Council on Tuesday night snuffed medical marijuana dispensaries, voting 6-1 on an ordinance that bans the facilities in the city.
About a dozen people spoke during the public hearing, with most asking that the council allow, not prohibit, dispensaries. Two speakers each presented petitions containing 230 and 143 signatures of city residents who they said support medical marijuana dispensaries in Greeley.
Several people hoping to open dispensaries, allowed by Amendment 20 passed by voters nine years ago, urged the council to grant what they consider responsible operations that serve patients in need.

^ New Deaths May Be Swine Flu Related

Colorado has 6 new deaths reported that may be linked to the swine flu. The six new deaths were reported to Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment last week. Officials posted the new totals online Wednesday but didn't immediately return a call. Officials said 183 more people were hospitalized with all types of flu last week, including 59 confirmed cases of swine flu. To date, 1058 cases of the flu have been reported statewide since August 30th and of those, 578 are confirmed H1N1, or swine, flu.

EMCH Phones May Be Busy

You may get a busy signal come Friday when you try to call East Morgan County Hospital. In a press release, the Hospital says that they will be upgrading the phone system at the hospital starting October 23.
The upgrade will cause temporary busy signal or no answer between the hours of 8 and 10 p.m.
If you call and have this problem, please use the temporary phone number, 970-842-0723.
The phone system will be working as normal on October 24.

Cheer Camp to Begin

The Brush High School Cheerleaders will be holding their Youth Cheer Camp for Beaver Valley and Middle School students beginning Monday, October 26 at 3:30 p.m.
The camp will be held at BHS in the auxiliary gym on October 26, 27, 28, 29 and November 3, 4, 5 and 6. Students will learn cheers, jumps, stunts and a routine that will be performed at half time of the Brush Beetdigger Football game on November 6.
The Brush News Tribune says that Cost for the camp is $20, which includes the purchase of a Cheer Camp Shirt. A parent permit slip must be completed before camp participation. Flyers will be available at Beaver Valley and the Middle School by October 21.

New Texting Ban Coming

It's national teen driver week right now and the student council at Abraham Lincoln High School in Denver is challenging fellow teens, as well as adults, to turn off their cell phones when they get behind the wheel. A new law goes into effect December 1st making it illegle to use a cell phone while driving for those under 18. The law only bans texting for those 18 and over. Expect to start seeing PSAs on TV announcing the new law soon.
