Sterling Receives GOGO Grant

The Great Outdoors Colorado Board has awarded $115,000 in Lottery funds to the City of Sterling to enhance playgrounds at two elementary schools. Enhancements will be made at both the Ayers and Campbell Elementary School including resurfacing all zones to allow accessibility and adding age appropriate play equipment. Accordingt o a release from Great Outdoors, recent consolidation of five schools in Sterling to these two schools has left the playground equipment at both inadequate for school children, neighbors and visitors to enjoy.

Statewide 49 projects were awarded grants of $9.3 million are for local park and outdoor recreation areas, to create plans for future projects, and to protect more than 13,000 acres of open space. GOCO received 89 applications requesting $14.3 million.

MCC's Summer Institute is Underway

The Morgan Community College Summer Institute for Educators is underway for the summer. The event has attracted more than 40 participants, according to school officials, who say most of the 40 enrolled in more than one of the six summer classes. The topics include licensing procedures, engaging young children in art and science activities, ECE and EDU certificate and degree opportunities at MCC, financial aid options, new Head Start teacher requirements, and a state stipend program for child care providers who complete college credits.
