Otterbox Helps Fight Cancer

A Colorado company is helping consumers protect their smart phones AND supporting women with breast cancer. Fort Collins-based Otterbox manufactures and distributes impact-resistant cases for iPhone, Blackberry and other small electronics. The company recently released a pink and white phone case for some Blackberry editions as part of the company's "Strength" line. Otterbox.com reports quote -- "For the millions of lives affected by breast cancer each year, strength is more than just a word; it is a way of life. Strength is the courage to persevere, the power to fight and the determination to endure."
Otterbox is donating 10 percent of each sale to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. Spokeswoman Kristin Golliher says in April, Otterbox made a minimum donation pledge of $50,000, and to date the company has already given $45,000.

Cherry Street Improvement Info Meeting Tonight

The City of Fort Morgan will hold a neighborhood meeting tonight at six at the Fort Morgan Senior Center. It's to tell residents about the upcoming Cherry Street Improvement project between Burlington Avenue and Gateway Avenue.

Brothers Hope to Win 'Looser'

Brothers Adam and Aaron Waters could be on their way to becoming "The Biggest Loser" -- that would be contestants on the TV show -- not really losers. How could they be losers when they stand a chance of winning slots on the show? The Fort Morgan Times reports that the pair passed round one and are awaiting a call from the show's producers for round two. The tryouts were in Brookfield recently, and some 600 others were also trying out for the gig. Adam said the Brush Chamber of Commerce got he and his brother to the front of the line at the tryouts with VIP passes. You know what they say in Hollywood though, "Don't call us, we'll call you." The brothers are still waiting for their call.

County Express Wins $20K Grant

County Express has 20 thousand dollars to put toward buying two wheelchair accessible vehicles to transport elderly and disabled northeastern Colorado residents.
Northeastern Colorado Association of Local Governments Executive Director Larry Worth said the grant comes from the Daniels Fund, started by Bill Daniels who's known for helping those in need. When he applied for the Grant, Worth said the transportation will help keep those who need rides as independent as possible.

Bid Process Confusing

When the Sterling City Council recently asked for bids on the Cleveland Street sewer project, The got two bids: one from a Sterling contractor and one from a Fort Morgan Contractor. The bids were about 24 thousand dollars apart, with the Sterling contractor, Concrete Specialties being the higher of the two. Alan Krier is with Concrete Specialties. He told the Journal Advocate that the form on which the council wanted the bid submitted was not one that he was used to. He said they were asking for a per hour rate before he knew the specifics of the job. Krier added that it wasn't a good way to submit the bid. He also added that the contractor from Fort Morgan might need the work more than he does and that could be why the bids are so far apart. The city is still working on the costs for the sewer line replacement.

Thieves Break Into License Branch

Its called a smash and grab. Its what Fort Morgan Police Chief Keith Kuretich said burglars did last week at the state driver's license office. He said it happened between 5:15 p.m. Wednesday and 6:50 a.m. Thursday. The chief said thieves made off with nearly a thousand dollars in cash and checks. A police report indicates that a piece of concrete was thrown through the glass in an outer door and that's likely how they got in. Police also found blood at the scene and believed the one or more burglars may have been injured in the incident.
