Museum asks for military artifact donations

The Brush Area Museum and Cultural Center is asking for military memorabilia donations.

The museum is asking local people to lend the items for a new military exhibit, which is slated to open in March in the south gallery.

Specifically, the museum is looking for a military uniform from World War One and an old-style women's military uniform from before the Vietnam War.

A museum volunteer says World War One uniforms are very scarce.

While the museum is particularly interested in displaying items from people who live in Brush, it will accept donations from people in Fort Morgan and throughout the entire country.

Inside Job at Sterling Business Nets Alleged Thief 67 Counts

A Sterling man is facing more than 65 charges after he allegedly stole from his employer.

Sterling Police said that Curt Batt forged 340 thousand dollars worth of checks from Dinsdale Brothers Inc. They said that several of the checks had Christopher Dinsdale's signature on them -- he is the company president. Police said the scheme went back as 2001. They said Batt faces 32 counts of Identity Theft, 32 counts of Forgery, one count of Theft, one count of Computer Crime and one county of Criminal Attempt to Commit Theft. Batt was arrested on November 9.

Special Hours for Holiday

Operating hours for the Recreation Office, Recreation Center, Sterling Public Library,
Overland Trail Museum and the Riverside Cemetery Office will be modified for the
Thanksgiving holiday:

Wednesday, Nov. 24 – Library and Recreation Center close at 5:00 p.m. (Pool closes at 4:00 p.m.)
Thursday, Nov. 25 - Thanksgiving Day – all facilities closed.
Friday, Nov. 26 – Recreation Center open regular hours. No Aqua Aerobics
classes will be held. All other facilities closed.
Sat. Nov. 27 – Overland Trail Museum, Sterling Public Library and Recreation
Center open.

"Santa" Events Coming Soon

Santa will make an appearance at the Sterling Recreation Center on December 9th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Admission for the Center’s 6th annual “Santa At The Center” event is free! Stay warm inside while waiting for that traditional visit and photo opportunity with Santa. Bring your own camera or a card mounted Polaroid photo will be available for $2.00. Upstairs, kids can participate in activities such as Christmas videos, ornament decorating, and a coloring contest for those 12 and under. There will also be free cookies, drinks, and drawings for various items. Everyone is invited to attend “Santa At The Center,” and enjoy all the activities, decorations throughout the inside and outside of Recreation Center, and the famous “Christmas Lighted Fire Truck”, compliments of the City of Sterling.

CU Unveils Community College Transfer Program

The University of Colorado today is expected to unveil a new program aimed at getting more community college students to transfer to the university. CU officials bill the program as "an innovative transfer that is one of its kind in the United States." Although university officials aren't releasing many details, the program is said to expand educational opportunities for thousands of students in Colorado.
