KSIR-032612-Morgan Co Comm Center Appoints Interim Director-FM

The Board of Directors for The Morgan County Communications Center has appointed dispatcher Danette Martin as interim Director, following the the recent resignation of director Pam Monsees. A search for a permanent replacement is underway. The center is responsible for handling 9-1-1 calls for the county 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Because of the specialized skills and stress tolerance needed to work in that environment, the center has suffered a shortage of dispatchers for months. Interim Director Martin says some new dispatchers are in a training program now.

Greeley Priarie Dog Laws

KSIR-032612-Greeley Prairie Dog Laws-ST

In Greeley, the law says if your property is infested by prairie dogs, you've got to get them removed. "infestation" is defined as more than one per 900 square feet. But that raises concerns with environmentalist who point out that prairie dogs are a food source for grassland preditors, including birds of prey, reptiles, and coyotes.
For that reason, the city does not generally enforce the law May through October...unless there are complaints from residents. When there is a complaint, the property owner has 30 days to get them irradicated, or face fines and fees if the city handles it. Priairie dogs tend to begin expanding their colonies in the early spring months.
