A Weld County Sheriff's deputy and now the robbery suspect are dead after that chase and shootout in Evans yesterday. Forty-three-year-old deputy Sam Brownlee was pronounced dead on arrival at North Colorado Medical Center while 20-year-old suspect Ruben Reyes also died there about six hours after a gunfight with authorities. It started when Wiggins police got a call of domestic violence after Reyes allegedly stole his girlfriend's car from East Burlington Street in Fort Morgan. Authorities from multiple jurisdictions chased the suspect for about 35 miles at speeds reportedly exceeding 100-miles an hour. Brownlee was among the officers who caught up with Reyes around 11 a.m. in the Cave Creek subdivision of Evans where both men were shot during a gunfight.

Governor-Elect Announces Newest Administration Team Member
Colorado Governor-Elect John Hickenlooper on Tuesday said state Representative Christine Scanlan will join his administration team. Scanlan, a Dillon Democrat, is a centrist who insiders say is willing to work with Republicans and not give in to partisan pressure. Scanlan will be the Director of Legislative Affairs and Strategic Initiatives, serving as a conduit between Hickenlooper and state legislators. The governor-elect has not invited anyone from El Paso County to join his team.
Two Suspicious Passengers Taken From Flight to DIA
Two people were removed from a flight to Denver International Airport yesterday where they were later searched and released. Federal authorities said two men aboard U.S. Airways flight 1525 were taken off the plane after crew members raised a concern 45 minutes before the flight's scheduled landing. Once on the ground, agents from the Transportation Safety Administration helped escort the passengers off the plane before releasing them. The flight from Charlotte originated in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
