Students in the RE-1 Valley School district could be taking spring break in March next year. The District Accountability Advisory Committee made the recommendation to the Board of Education in their 2012 - 2013 calendar. The D-A-A-C approved the calendar on a vote with 3 members opposing the measure. No word yet on when or if the Board will accept the recommendation.

US Rep Gardner's Energy Bill Gets Committee Hearing

The US House Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing this morning to discuss a pair of energy bills. One of those bills is sponsored by Colorado Congressman Cory Gardner. He says his bill would tie any tapping of the nation's strategic petroleum reserves to increased oil production here in the US...






TAG: Today's committee hearing on Capitol Hill is the latest in a series of meetings for lawmakers to consider the American Energy Initiative. Gardner says the goal is to lower the price of gas and preserve domestic energy security.

I-76 Resurfacing Project Underway

A 25-mile resurfacing project on westbound I-76 between Brush and Sterling is underway. Crews from the Colorado Department of Transportation are also replacing the guard rails and installing new bridge rails between mile marker 95 and mile marker 110. Project Engineer Jiff Vickers says barring any drastic weather, the project should be finished by July. Most of the work will be done between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. C-DOT officials say drivers should expect westbound delays in the coming months because traffic will be reduced to just one lane. The $6.2 million project is being paid for with federal funds from the Funding Advancements for Surface Treatment and Economic Recovery legislation...also known as FASTER. The legislation is aimed at improving safety on highways and bridges.
